Second try. I had a post written, and Wix.com helpfully deleted it. At least, the second time around for any task is easier!
Axe-throwing was never on my bucket list. One has to be aware an activity exists in order to add it to a bucket list. Now I can write it in, and cross it off.
Mortimer's parents gifted the excursion to our family, and we took it last Saturday.
The boys (W & K) both showed a natural proclivity to heaving sharp, heavy objects into 4" thick slabs of hardwood. You can imagine the macho man sounds coming from 15 & 16 year old boys heaving sharp, heavy objects into 4" slabs of hardwood.
I had about a 63% rate of accuracy landing a sharp, not-so-heavy object after one of the employees took pity and showed me a better technique than go and throw and hope.
And I did get a couple bullseyes. Not bad for the first time, though I firmly believe I accidentally landed those. Good technique and follow through aren't developed well after only one session.
My favorite sharp objects to throw were the Ninja stars. They look like cute, little snowflakes, only deadly. They're light, easy to throw, and with all the sharp points, stick readily into the target despite the rotation in the throw.
We had dinner at a well-known and overpriced establishment on the way home. One child ordered about 2 wings too many, but he wasn't about to be defeated by chicken wings and choked his way to the end.
Another child had worked up the appetite of 3-4 people. He cleaned his plate and the plates of everyone around him.
Sometimes, I can't tell if we have only 4 kids or 14, but the ride home was loud. Happy loud. Mortimer and I just sat in front--thankfully with the barrier of the seats between us and the circus in the back--and quietly enjoyed the noise, rolling our eyes at the chaos, but still smiling with the fun.
